A federally funded study, which will take place at three locations in Jonesboro and Little Rock, will help determine low-cost solutions to help reduce the current number of pedestrian deaths in Arkansas.
This federally funded safety program will cost $100,000. The Arkansas pedestrian safety study will focus on reducing pedestrian fatalities at uncontrolled crossing locations and intersections that lack traffic signals.
Some practices that could be implemented include:
- Pedestrian hybrid beacons
- Pedestrian refuge islands
- Raised crosswalks
- Crosswalk visibility enhancements
Let’s all work together to make our Arkansas roads safer. Drivers, remember to always yield to pedestrians and pedestrians remember to utilize sidewalks and crosswalks when available. And please be careful while walking, running or biking using your mobile device. Always look ahead, don’t look down, and be aware of oncoming traffic.
