In June every year, the National Safety Council focuses on reducing leading causes of injury and death at work, on the road and in our homes and communities. June is also the start of the summer for kids, and with both of these in mind, attorney John Gore of Caddell Reynolds visited Good Day NWA in June for National Safety Month. A clip of this informative segment appears below.
Summer Safety
Summer is a great time for children and families alike to take advantage of the beautiful weather and free time and enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities. From water safety to playground safety, keeping our kids safe this summer is our number one priority.
Playing Safe
Each year in the United States, emergency departments treat more than 200,000 children ages 14 and younger for playground-related injuries. Falls at home and on the playground are a common cause of injury.
Here’s how to minimize playground injuries:
- Check to make sure that the surfaces under playground equipment are safe, soft, and well-maintained.
- Supervise young children at all times around fall hazards, such as stairs and playground equipment.
- Use stair gates, which can help keep a busy, active child from taking a dangerous tumble.
How Can You Prevent Swimming Accidents?
Another common type of injury for children and families during the summer are injuries during swimming. These can include anything from slip and falls by the pool to drowning.
Here is how you can prevent some of these common injuries:
- Take swimming lessons
- Make sure a responsible adult is supervising
- Don’t go swimming when it is thunder storming or in bad weather conditions
- Learn CPR
- Don’t drink alcohol
