There have been three confirmed fatalities. The victims’ identities have not yet been released by the authorities. According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT), the collision has blocked the southbound lanes of I-540.
Witnesses to the fatal accident say a logging truck, a dump truck, and a flatbed semi hauling a bulldozer became involved in a collision with several passenger vehicles. The collision occurred near Exit 3 on I-540 in Van Buren just after the Arkansas River bridge. Early accounts suggest the logging truck was traveling northbound on I-540 when it crossed the median and collided with several vehicles.
