September is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month. This month, Caddell Reynolds brings to light some of the facts and figures surrounding the potentially devastating and life-altering effects that a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) can have.

The National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center (NSCISC)—an organization funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)—operates from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Their 2018 report on Spinal Cord Injury reports the details.

With a current United States population estimated to be 327 Million, NSCISC estimates an annual incidence of SCI in the U.S. at approximately 54 cases per one Million people. This amounts to nearly 17,700 new cases of SCI every year. They estimate approximately 288,000 people in the United States currently live with the effects of some form of SCI. These effects include both Tetraplegia—paralysis of all four limbs—and Paraplegia—paralysis of the legs and lower body.

Underlying Causes

According to the NSCISC, Spinal Cord Injuries result from the following causes:

·  38% from Vehicular Accidents ·  8% from Sports-Related Injuries
·  32% from Slip-and-Fall Injuries ·  5% from Surgical Malpractice
·  14% from Acts of Violence ·  4% from Unspecified Causes

Long-Term Effects

Among those who suffer SCIs, the long-term prognosis will break down as follows:

·  47% suffer from Incomplete Tetraplegia ·  20% suffer from Complete Paraplegia
·  20% suffer from Incomplete Paraplegia ·  12% suffer from Complete Tetraplegia
·  1% make a Full Recovery

Caddell Reynolds. Make the right call!

I recently had to make to difficult choice to file Bankruptcy due to a life-changing heart condition at the peak of my career. It’s not an easy choice to make when you’ve managed a finance company for a living, and yet it became imperative for my survival and wellness. With horrible regret, I visited Caddell Reynolds for my first consultation. I think in a short while I knew I was on the right track. They say first impression is key, and I was placed at ease with the incredibly empathetic front desk coordinator, Yolanda. She knew I was nervous, and helped me feel welcome and informed. My attorney, was engaged in my journey, understood my pain and immediately addressed my worries with a solution. My attorney truly has treated my like an individual case, caring about my needs and why I was having to file. I had a team of excellent staff that provided a professional experience with a wonderful attitude and work ethic that has made a life changing event bearable. Brooke whom assisted my attorney is amazing and personable very attentive. The little time I had to spend in the office was great. I couldn’t recommend the Caddell Reynolds team enough- the team starts at the door with the incredible Yolanda to greet you when you walk in!
